International travel is beginning to see an uptick again as vaccine rollout continues around the world. However, restrictions are constantly changing, which can put soon-to-be travelers in a difficult planning position leading up to their dream post-covid vacation.
For those interested in international travel but unsure of different restrictions, Expedia has partnered with Sherpa – a travel tech company that’s previously worked with businesses like American Airlines – to create a tool. Expedia has officially rolled out its “COVID-19 travel advisor,” a compilation of restrictions, quarantine policies, COVID-19 testing mandates, and necessary health documents needed to travel to different countries.
Using the new tool is easy. All users have to do is enter their origin country, destination, and date of travel. From there, the webpage will populate with all the information travelers will need to know before embarking on an international vacation, and what they’ll need to have on hand in order to re-enter their home country.
According to Stacey Symonds, a senior director of experience insights with Expedia Group, the program aims to “reduce friction for travelers.”
“Right now, many people are considering booking trips as the COVID-19 vaccine rollout continues, but at the same time, they’re inundated with conflicting information about where and how they can safely travel,” Symonds said in the press release.
Over 1.6 million people have used Expedia’s tool since its pilot phase began in November 2020. And according to Expedia, 25% more travelers, compared to pre-COVID-19 numbers, have been using online travel agencies to plan their trips.
The new travel advisor program has also been rolled out across Expedia Groups’ different brands, including Hotels.com, Orbitz, Travelocity, and Vrbo.
