Airlines canceled more than 2,100 U.S. flights Wednesday as Hurricane Ian made landfall just north of Fort Myers, Fla., as a strong Category 4 storm.

Airports in Orlando, Tampa, Sarasota and Fort Myers are among those closed for the storm. Key West airport also remains closed. Miami airport is open but is experiencing nearly a 50% cancellation rate.

A total of 2,116 flights to, from or within the U.S. had been canceled as of 2:45 Eastern, according to FlightAware.

Among U.S. mainline airlines, Allegiant had canceled the highest percentage of flights, at 50%. Frontier has canceled the second highest portion of flights, at 27%.

Airlines have issued travel waivers for impacted airports.
