Flights: Latest updates for BA, TUI, easyJet, Ryanair and Jet2 after holidays cancelled

Flights have been thrown into chaos throughout the covid pandemic. Last week a national lockdown began in the UK and it was announced that from this week, anyone entering England would have to present a negative covid test upon boarding their flight. So what are the latest updates and travel advice from the major airlines British Airways, TUI, easyJet, Ryanair and Jet2?

British Airways

British Airways have said they will contact anyone whose flights or holidays have been cancelled as a result of the latest lockdown.

A BA spokesman told today: “Like other airlines, due to the current Coronavirus pandemic and global travel restrictions we are operating a reduced and dynamic schedule.

“We are contacting customers whose flights are cancelled to offer options including a full refund.

“We advise customers to check the latest UK Government travel advice at and their latest flight information at” 

The airline is urging travellers to make sure their contact details are up to date in ‘Manage my Booking’ on

“If you need to change your flight or apply for a voucher then you can visit our ‘Book with Confidence’ pages on Our contact centres are receiving a large volume of calls at the moment, so please bear with us if you are trying to call to rebook for immediate travel,” BA said.

The carrier reminded customers their book with confidence commitment means you have the option to change your booking date and destination or even cancel it completely.

TUI have cancelled all holidays until the middle of next month when the lockdown is currently set to end.

“As a result of the latest national lockdown measures announced on January 4, 2021, we’re cancelling all holidays in line with international travel restrictions,” said the carrier last week.

“Customers due to travel from an English airport before mid-February will be contacted in departure date order to discuss their options, which will include amending to another holiday with an incentive, receiving an ATOL-protected refund credit note with incentive, or cancelling and receiving a full refund.

“All holidays from Scotland and Wales have been cancelled until January 31. We will constantly review holiday cancellations in line with updated travel advice.”

TUI added: “Customers currently overseas can continue to enjoy their holidays as planned and we will update them directly if there are any changes to their holidays.”


easyJet will contact anyone whose flights have been axed and customers will be able to request refunds for cancelled trips.

“Following the Prime Minister’s announcement… and the implications for international travel from the UK, we are reviewing all holiday bookings,” an easyJet spokeswoman said last week.

“We will be contacting customers whose holidays can no longer go ahead with the option of cancelling for easyJet holidays credit which can be used to rebook an alternative holiday, or customers can choose a full refund back to their original payment method.

“We’re really proud that we’ve been able to average 12 days to process refunds.

“We will also be in touch with customers with later departure dates to remind them of our easyJet holidays Protection Promise which offers ultimate flexibility and reassurance.”


Ryanair last week announced plans to slash cut its flight schedule through January, February and March.

Following the latest lockdown measures across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, the airline predicts its January traffic will fall to under 1.25 million passengers.

It also believes the new coronavirus restrictions could reduce February and March traffic to as little as 500,000 passengers each month.

All customers affected by the new flight cancellations will be contacted by the airline to discuss their options.

Passengers will be entitled to move their journey to a future date, or claim back a full refund.


Jet2 have cancelled all flights and holidays until early mid-February with the exception of ski flights and its Ireland programme.

“Due to the ongoing uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and government travel restrictions, we’ve taken the decision to extend the suspension of all flights up to and including February 11, 2021,” said Jet2.

“If you’re due to travel from 12 February 2021 onwards, we’ll provide an update closer to the time.

“Please note, this announcement doesn’t apply to our Iceland or ski flights. We’re keeping these under review and will advise accordingly.

“Nobody wants customers to be on holiday enjoying themselves more than we do, and we’re looking forward to resuming our award-winning flights.”

In happier news, Jet2 today announced that it will commence flights and holidays to Lisbon, Portugal from September, with services operating to the new destination from Manchester and Birmingham Airports.
