Tennessy Weir checks into Tahuna Beach Holiday Park, Tahunanui.
Check-in experience:
Reception was humming because it was Wellington anniversary weekend. The women behind the desks worked their way through the small crowd swiftly.
We were handed a map of the park and the key to our room which we found easily. We admired the permanent residents’ tiny plots decorated with treasures and pretty gardens.
Location: Tahunanui, sunny Nelson. A scenic 1.5 hour drive from Picton.
Room: A cosy kitchen cabin, two singles and a double bed, with views over the Tahunanui Beach Reserve.
Food and drink: BBQ areas where most ate, drank and played.
The bed: Firm and comfortable.
Wi-Fi: Free for the first 30 mins (100mbs). It was such a slow connection I gave up.
Noise: Unfortunately we were in the Nelson flight path so we got an early morning wake-up and the last one flew over around 21:30.
Bathroom: Communal, yet clean.
Price: $83 a night.
What’s in the neighbourhood: Natureland Zoo, Burrell Park, Nelson Fun Park, bars and takeaway joints. Nelson centre was five minutes away. Pic’s factory was heading south, as were Motueka, Moutere, Kaiteriteri and Mapua.
Contact: tahunabeachholidaypark.co.nz.
What we loved: Being close to what the Tasman has to offer.
Would I return: For a short stay.
