Twisted Food knows a thing or two about food and have named their favourite Sunday roasts around the country. For a quintessentially British meal, a Sunday roast can’t be beat.
The best weekend roast was found to be Roast in Borough Market, London.
The name of this establishment says it all and even features in the Michelin Guide.
On Tripadvisor, THM011 said: “We visited here as a last-minute booking and it was amazing.
“The restaurant is stunning, the food is excellent. I am a massive roast dinner fan and this is probably the best roast dinner I have ever been served.”
Matthew G said: “British roast done perfectly.
“This is one of my favourite restaurants, though I only manage to go occasionally. This year did not disappoint. Perfect Beef Wellington. As its name suggests the restaurant majors on traditional British roast dinners; the menu otherwise is limited.”
In second place was London’s only Michelin starred pub, Harwood Arms.
Located in the back streets of Fulham, the gastropub “champions the very best British produce”.
Lucy B said: “Amazing Amazing Amazing.
“This meal was stunning. I am a vegetarian and sometimes going for a Sunday roast can be a little disappointing. Not here! The starters were so interesting and beautifully presented. The restaurant was so accommodating and put together a vegetarian roast for me which was delicious, and meant my boyfriend got his very own beef roast – very happy.”
And Grla2020 wrote: “Had yet another fantastic trip to the Harwood Arms, this time for a family Sunday Roast. After enjoying a delicious devilled crab tart for a starter, I couldn’t wait for the main event.
“Opting for the roast beef we were not disappointed, beautifully cooked and full of favour, and served with lovely roast vegetables and Yorkshire puddings containing slow braised beef as a taste bud bursting surprise! Best roast in London in my opinion, and with a great wine list and fantastic service we will most definitely be back.”
The Duck Inn in Stanhoe, Norfolk came third.
The highest ranked Sunday roast outside of London on the list, the Inn has been a pub since the 1700s.
Siobhan C said: “My husband and I were on holiday and heard about their roast dinners so pre-booked. We were not disappointed!
“We ordered the lamb and pork roast dinner. Mine was dairy free due to intolerance and nothing was too much of an effort or trouble for them to amend my dish without notice.
“They brought out my vegetables separate and my main was only missing a few sauces but put my Yorkshire pudding on my husband’s plate which he was most happy about!
“We only wished we lived nearer as it would become a regular. My husband had the Duck Inn triple chocolate brownie which looked amazing and from what he said, it was!”
In fourth place was Blacklock, which has restaurants all over London.
Celebrating traditional London chophouses, Blacklock has restaurants in Soho, the City, Shoreditch and a Covent Garden location set to open in 2022.
Rounding up the top five was The Scran and Scallie in Edinburgh.
NicInnis said: “The best Sunday roast – possibly ever!
“Recommended by a local lady on the train up to Edinburgh and we were not disappointed. Short walk to Stockbridge from Edinburgh and worth every step.
“It was very busy so glad we booked and would definitely recommend doing so.
“Starter of haggis neeps and tatties was lovely as was the terrine but the stand out course was the roast beef, beautiful roasties and Yorkshire pud – all faultless as was the service and the staff.”
