Immerse yourself in South East Asia

Covering multiple countries across South East Asia this week, we are focusing on one of Asia’s jewels; Singapore, the garden city.

Unlike other cities in this part of the the world, Singapore has managed to combine high population levels, with large amounts of parks and betiful greenery. Over 50% of Singapore is either park or nature reserve.

Singapore is comprised of approx. 15 distinct areas. Some of the most popular include:

Riverside: centred on the old colonial core with associated architecture and museums

Orchard Road: miles and miles of shopping heaven. Spend a bit of time haggling for the best price electronics, clothing, and designer handbags.

Marina Bay: Including newly developed Gardens by the Bay, Marina Bay has something for everyone. A casino, shopping and of course the world famous Marina Bay Sands.

Sentosa: Originally a military fort, the island has been cleverly developed into a family friendly hub, with Universal Studios, The Crane Dance, Dolphin Island, Animal & Bird Encounters, and Butterfly Park & Insect Kingdom. Mega Adventure Park.

Little India: Kind of like India, but not so much. Aspects include Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple, and the festival of Thaipusam. Streets are packed full of food and other Indian goods. Other authentic aspects in include the constant honking of car horns, and a lively atmosphere.

Chinatown: A heritage area, once created for Chinese immigrants. Visit the Chinese Heritage Centre, Duxton Skybridge and more.
