American and Frontier launch nonstops to two Caribbean islands

Frontier Airlines launched Saturday nonstop flights from Orlando to Antigua and Barbuda, marking the only nonstop option between the destinations.

“Frontier’s expansion in the Caribbean highlights our epic international growth story throughout the past year, while maintaining the affordable fares that shape our ‘Low Fares Done Right’ strategy,” said Barry Biffle, president and CEO.

Charles Fernandez, minister of tourism and investment, called the launch of the new service “welcome news for Antigua and Barbuda as we head into the winter season. With competitive fares on offer and greater connections to other U.S. cities out of Orlando, we expect to see a significant increase in stayover visitors from the U.S. market.”

American to Anguilla

American, meanwhile, launched nonstop service between Miami and Anguilla on Dec. 11, making it the first carrier to offer a flight from the mainland U.S. to that island. The flight operates twice weekly, on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Other new international nonstop operations in the Caribbean include Dominica, which started on Dec. 8.

With these network additions and more widebody flying, this winter American will be operating up to 378 daily flights to 140 global destinations, marking an almost 19% increase in seat capacity versus winter 2019-2020.
