Holidaymakers may pay for their hotel stay, but it doesn’t mean they can do whatever they want. Hotel staff are sharing some of the worst types of behaviours they have to deal with, and guests should be ashamed.

Stealing guests was one of the most common problems hotel staff had.

One hotel owner said: “My heart sinks when a guest complains that the signature doesn’t look like theirs on a very expensive bar tab.

“Of course it doesn’t, you were so drunk that you couldn’t hold a pen nor remember your room number.”

Some guests lied quite easily, with another hotel staff naming the worst type of guest.

He said: “The guests who say: ‘The robes/cushions/ornaments/pictures looked very like the ones we have at home.

“’I thought my wife had brought them with us. That’s why I packed them into our suitcase.'”

Guests will go to any length to steal, with some holidaymakers asking for extra toilet paper just so they can pack up the surplus into their suitcases.

Other items guests were quick to steal included batteries from TV remotes and coat hangers.

And of course, food was also a popular item to try and get for free.

Some of the worst guests were those “who nick food for their lunch from the breakfast buffet and try to hide it up their jumpers as they leave the room”, said staff.

However, stealing guests were not the only kind of “nightmare” guests for hotel staff.

Hotel Management Glenn Haussman said “party people” were some of the worst guests.

He explained: “At full-service hotels and casino resorts in particular, I see these folks ready to party.

“But not the type of partying that makes you money at the bar.

“Nope, these folks orchestrate their own party by bringing in massively sized coolers jam-packed with more beer and other forms of booze than anyone can possibly drink.

“With no shame or respect for the hotel, they’ll mount a mission more complex than Normandy to bring in drinking supplies so they can save a few bucks and not buy your alcohol.

“And, of course, they leave the guestroom festooned with their remnants of cocktailing gone bad.”

Other annoying guests include the holidaymakers who try to fit as many people in a room as possible.

Glenn said: “Yes, they know the room has a single king-sized bed and a small chair in the corner.

“But that didn’t stop them from reserving a room for one or two people, and then stealthily sneaking in many, many more.

“It’s a giant pain as they overstuff the room and expect you not to notice; especially after they just asked you for a dozen extra pillows and blankets and a roll-away cot.”
