Queen Elizabeth II, 94, has travelled around the world countless times representing the UK during state visits. Though her schedule is often jam-packed with people to meet and events to attend, she makes sure not to miss out on her all-important sleep.

However, in order to do so, it seems she has some very simple yet effective tips.

This includes packing specific items for use at bedtime.

According to a 1992 Vanity Fair article, Her Majesty always packs a hot water bottle to be taken with her.

This inexpensive and easily accessible item won’t take up much space in luggage, meaning even a traveller restricted by the smallest of baggage allowances can slip one into their luggage.

According to historian Robert K. Massie, the water bottle is slipped into her sheets before she gets in to warm up the bed and ensure her slumber spot is comfortable.

Hot water bottles can also be used as heating pads for the body, great for soothing muscle pain after a busy day.

Of course, this is not the only tip Queen Elizabeth has picked up along the way.

The Monarch is also known to take her own feather pillow so she can rest her head in comfort regardless of her surroundings.

With so much travel, jet lag can also be a headache, particularly with an itinerary as busy as the Queen’s.

Luckily, she has a nifty travel trick to beat this too.

Though many people may reach for over-the-counter medications to help side-step international time zones, the Monarch prefers more natural remedies.

These include basic “homoeopathic medicines” and “barley sugar”.

This may seem like an odd choice, particularly as some experts actually warn travellers off sugar when they are tired.

Sugar can cause a spike in blood sugar levels which will crash causing major fatigue.

Doctors also recommend seeing a GP before trying any homoeopathic medicine.

Though useful for some, it can also interfere with other medications.

Queen Elizabeth also ensures she has plenty of her home comforts with her while travelling, to further enhance the experience.

Insiders say she always packs her own supply of Earl Grey tea and personal monogrammed kettle with her.

As part of Channel 5 documentary ‘Secrets of the Royal Flight’, royal correspondent Emily Andrews said: “She loves afternoon tea, it’s her favourite meal and she only drinks Earl Grey.

“So if you were the chef on board the Royal Plane you would definitely make sure that you had an entire supply of Earl Grey. Not just for the plane journey but wherever you were going on tour on tour.“
