Olive magazine has named its list of best Sunday roasts outside London. Going for Sunday roast is a British institution, and many Britons up and down the country may be looking for the best pubs and restaurants to get their weekend staple.
The list of best Sunday roasts from Olive magazine is not numbered, as the restaurants and pubs named are all over the country.
From Stratford to Cardiff, Edinburgh to Berkshire, the best roasts can be found in the following establishments.
Brassica, Beaminster, Dorset
Listed in the Michelin Guide, Brassica was popular with Tripadvisor user Natalie.
She said: “I’ve reviewed this restaurant before as I love it and wish it was in my village and not 10 miles away!
“Food and service are always good but the stylish and impeccably eclectic interior is definitely worth a mention and to be honest my home is starting to look like the inside of Brassica, with colour, cushions and Nordic wallpaper…”
The Pheasant, Shefford Woodlands, Berkshire
On Tripadvisor, LCooper said: “The best food ever.
“The food was absolutely divine. I had the pithivier which I’d not eaten before. The flavours from the pithivier, the gravy and the creamed mustard leeks were mouthwatering. 10/10 to the chef! Portion sizes were spot on too.
“My family enjoyed the roast beef which also went down a treat. Service was great. Our attentive waitress looked after us well. I can’t wait to return when we move to the area.”
Cook House, Newcastle
Reviewing Cook House, the Michelin Guide wrote: “Dinner is the main event.”
On Tripadvisor, Jenny said: “Perfect just perfect! Everything! Definitely the best place to eat in Newcastle and probably the whole north east. We will be back without a doubt.”
Asador 44, Cardiff
Another restaurant listed on the Michelin Guide, Asador 44 did not disappoint.
Lorettar said: “An excellent Sunday Lunch. The gravy is a work of art. Service excellent, food outstanding. Definitely worth a visit.”
The Edinburgh restaurant of the steakhouse chain was found to do a fantastic Sunday roast.
Jess wrote: “The best Sunday roast I have ever eaten! And trust me I’ve eaten a lot. The slow cooked beef was delicious and the gravy was so tasty. The cocktails were lovely too. You will not be disappointed.”
The Woodsman, Stratford-upon-Avon
The Woodsman is another Michelin Guide restaurant which made the list.
Sophie G said: “This place is a total gem! Outstanding food and amazing service. The food is presented beautifully and it’s just out of this world.”
Red Lion Freehouse, East Chisenbury, Wiltshire
The Michelin Guide pub is a favourite with locals.
Andrew E said: “Back to the best, old favourite and they did not let us down. We have been back out enjoying lunches again after our COVID break trying local restaurants.
“Again, the Red Lion is the benchmark to grade other places. It made me wonder why we try other places.”
Castle Farm, Midford, Bath
The restaurant is in a barn, on a farm just south of Bath, and the Sunday roast is apparently “the best”, according to Tripadvisor user Mangochica.
John Henry agreed and wrote: “Best Sunday lunch we’ve had for years. Also loved the way they do it – bit of everything. Fantastic. Lovely quirky atmosphere too. Can’t wait to visit again.”
The White Horse, Haselbury Plucknett, Somerset
Runner up in the 2018 Food Monthly Awards for Best Sunday Lunch, the White Horse has a Sunday sharing board that’s extremely popular with hungry visitors.
Will Longman said: “We had lunch in the garden yesterday and all three of us shared the Sunday roast sharing platter. Everything about it was perfectly cooked. The vegetables and potatoes were delicious and the gravy was just perfect. Also the service was just right. Thanks for a wonderful meal!”
