Travel money: Post Office introduce multi-currency pre-paid card
The pound to euro exchange rate has slipped since last week’s brief gain. GBP ended the first trading week of December “broadly unchanged”. Brexit talks continue to play a major role in sterling’s movements.
The market is pricing in “high expectations of a Brexit trade deal being agreed,” said experts.
Looking ahead at the week, the pound to euro rate will continue to be driven by politics.
The pound is currently trading at 1.1048 against the euro, according to Bloomberg at the time of writing.
Michael Brown, currency expert at international payments and foreign exchange firm Caxton FX, spoke to Express.co.uk regarding the latest exchange rate figures this morning.

“Sterling ended Friday broadly unchanged against the common currency, though the market continues to price high expectations of a Brexit trade deal being agreed,” said Brown.
“Negotiations on said deal will remain in focus this week, with the pair set to be almost solely politically-driven.”
So what does all this mean for your holidays and travel money?
Post Office Travel Money is one of many popular providers.
The service is currently offering a rate of €1.094 over £400, €1.0849 for over £500 or €1.0904 for over £1,000.
Holidays can now take place once more for anyone living in England, but for those anxious about making concrete plans, booking last minute is a savvy way to go – but what’s the best way to book?
If you’re worried about missing out if you leave it till the last minute, consider being flexible with your dates.
“With so many of us working flexibly, mid-week staycations are a great way to browse a wider variety of properties that would usually be booked up over a weekend,” Matt Fox, founder of last-minute holiday provider, Snaptrip, told Express.co.uk.
Make the most of filters when searching online too.
“Snaptrip has a ‘Biggest Discount’ filter on site, so people can search for properties with the largest price reductions available at the time,” Fox pointed out.
The expert also recommended staying consistent with your search.
“Our inventory is updated almost daily with new properties and deals,” he said.
Lastly, Fox advises opting for getaways far from the madding crowds.
“We would always advise guests to remain socially distanced from others outside of their household or support bubble during their stay,” he said.
“So secluded, off the beaten track holidays are a great, safe option.
“As well as relaxing and enjoying being cut off from the outside world for a few days, the chances of having any contact with the public is much lower.”
